Some information about Janmashtami:
Janmashtami, Hindu festival celebrating the birth (janma) of the god Krishna on the eighth (ashtami) day of the dark fortnight of the month of Bhadrapada (August–September). The number eight has another significance in the Krishna legend in that he is the eighth child of his mother, Devaki.
Janmashtami is the auspicious day when Lord Krishna took birth on this planet. The birthday of Lord Krishna is celebrated with great fervor and zeal in India in August or September. As per Hindu Calendar, this festival is celebrated on the 8th day of the dark fortnight which is called as Ashtami of Krishna Paksh.
Krishna Janmashtami, Gokulashtami, Krishnasthami or Srijayanti marks the birth of Krishna. He is considered the eighth avatar of Vishnu. The cities of Mathura and Vrindavan host the largest celebration of the festival because it is believed that Krishna spent his life growing up in what is now considered those cities.
